About Ángeles de Amaren

Ángeles de Amaren is a red wine made by D.O. La Rioja by Bodega Amaren in the town of Villabuena, in La Rioja Alavesa.
In 1995, the first vintage of Ángeles de Amaren was born as a high end wine from Bodega Luis Cañas.
In 2009 Juan Luis Cañas established Bodega Amaren as a tribute to his mother, Amaren means mother in Basque, and they produced a great wine from La Rioja.
It is made from Tempranillo (85%) and Graciano(15%) varieties.
The grapes are grown on vines of more than 40 years old planted in terraced and hillsides protected by Sierra Cantabria. The plots are in poor soils with a poor efficiency but with a grape of an excellent quality.
Bodega Amaren practices a respectful agriculture using only organic fertilizers and without using herbicides.
The harvest is done by hand and the grapes are transported to the winery in small plastic crates.
The vineyards can be found close to the winery with the transportation to the winery being as fast as possible so that the grapes arrive at the winery in the optimum state.
The grapes pass through a double selection process on tables, the first selection is of the bunches in perfect conditions. Once they have been destemmed, there is a second selection where they select the best grapes.
The vinification of the varieties is done separately in order to maintain the Tempranillo fruit and the complex Graciano.
Ángeles de Amaren undergoes an aging for 16 months in new French and American oak barrels.
Ángeles de Amaren is a low production wine. A great wine from La Rioja have a high fruit load and are very expressive.
