About Aiurri Landua

The combination of geographical, climatic, and cultural factors influences the quality and character of the wines produced. One of the regions that enjoys perfect conditions is Rioja, and more specifically Rioja Alavesa. Therefore, when Pedro Ruiz, director of Alma Carraovejas (Valladolid), was presented with the opportunity to work on a few plots in the village of Leza, at the foot of the majestic Sierra de Toloño in the Basque Country (Rioja), he did not hesitate to embark on a new project under the name Aiurri, which in Basque means "character." A name that seeks to reflect the true character of Rioja Alavesa, showcasing a magical place where wine and its culture permeate every corner.

His introductory wine is Aiurri Landua, a blend of the red varieties, tempranillo, graciano, and garnacha, accompanied by a small percentage of native white varieties. Old vines from small plots growing under the protection of the Sierra de Cantabria, stretching from the municipalities of Sonsierra to Laguardia. A mountainous landscape responsible for creating a unique microclimate, where the influences of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean converge. As a result, ripe fruit is obtained with a perfect balance between acidity and tannins. Once in the winery, vinification is carried out with spontaneous fermentations in French oak vats and concrete tanks. Subsequently, the wine ages separately depending on the origin of the grape. On one hand, the wines from San Vicente undergo aging for 9 months in foudres and French oak barrels, and on the other hand, those from Leza age in French oak barrels for 12 months. Finally, a blend is made and it remains for 5 months in concrete tanks before bottling.

Directly related to the intention of reflecting the essence and unique spirit of a wine region with a centuries-old tradition, Aiurri Landua is pure Rioja Alavesa. An expressive, fresh, and exuberant red that speaks volumes about the Rioja character.

 

2021

Aiurri Landua 2021 is a young and light red wine with a fluid character. On the nose, it is distinguished by its intense aromas of blackberries and plums, complemented by a hint of violets and mild spices. On the palate, it presents firm tannins that provide structure and a fresh finish that invites continued enjoyment. Ideal for those seeking an easy-to-drink wine with personality.
