Tamerán Baboso Blanco 2023 presents itself with a brilliant straw-yellow hue and greenish reflections. The aromas are reminiscent of fresh apples and pears, accompanied by subtle floral notes and a slight mineral touch that evokes its volcanic origin. On the palate, it reveals smoothness and freshness, with a balanced acidity that imparts liveliness. The flavours of stone fruits and citrus intertwine with a distinctive minerality, leaving a long, persistent finish with a pleasant saline sensation.

About Tamerán Baboso Blanco 2022

In Amazigh, the language of the Berber people, Tamerán signifies land of the brave. It is indeed true that one must possess considerable courage to venture into winemaking. Footballer David Silva was always known for his skills on the pitch until, in 2019, he decided to acquire a winery and six hectares of vineyard in Gran Canaria, between San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Santa Lucía. The truth—let it be said—is that such an endeavour requires great bravery, especially if one has never been involved in the wine world; however, with the company of his friend, oenologist Jonatán García (from Suertes del Marqués), nothing could possibly go awry. Nothing can falter at the Tamerán wineries.

Four years have now passed since the project commenced, and it has brought much joy. One such joy is Tamerán Baboso Blanco. This white wine, originating from ungrafted vines, derives its name from the baboso grape, a white variety that thrives in the volcanic soils of the D.O. Gran Canaria. In the case of Tamerán Baboso Blanco, the vines are situated on a slope facing south, at an elevation of approximately 700 metres above sea level. Its volcanic, barren, and rocky soils impart an unmistakable mineral character to the wines.

All of this is expertly managed by Jonatán García, who oversees the technical direction and leads all the work at the winery. At this stage, it is ensured that Tamerán Baboso Blanco is entirely handcrafted, completely eliminating the use of herbicides and insecticides, always ensuring the harvest is timed perfectly when the grapes have reached the right degree of ripeness, and fermentation always takes place with native yeasts. In the case of Tamerán Baboso Blanco, the process continues in 500-litre barrels where this white wine will undergo about nine months of ageing.

So it seems David Silva is not only adept on the football field. He also excels in the vineyards and at his Tamerán winery, where he continues to score goals. And what a remarkable goal he has scored with Tamerán Baboso Blanco.
