About Sàgona Gattorosso

In Italian, gatto rosso refers to that charming, auburn feline with a touch of mystery, always seeming to possess more knowledge than it reveals. Serene, observant, yet profoundly present. Such is also Sàgona Gattorosso, one of the most distinctive wines from Sàgona, and a liquid snapshot of a genuine, unadulterated territory.

Since 2012, Sàgona has been cultivating the slopes of Pratomagno, in the less touristy, more authentic Tuscany, where the agricultural heartbeat of past generations still resonates. Here, there is no monoculture, but rather patches of leased land, where olive trees, fruit trees, cereals, and old vines coexist. It is a fragmented agriculture, yet deeply coherent, where every decision is born out of respect for the land and its rhythm. Cultivate, preserve, and narrate; that is the philosophy.

Sàgona Gattorosso is a red wine crafted from grapes that speak the Tuscan dialect: sangiovese, malvasia, and a hint of colorino, ciliegiolo, and canaiolo. They are organically grown at 300 metres altitude on silty and sandy soils, with an exposure that allows the grapes to mature with character but without harshness.
The harvest is manual, as it has always been. Fermentations are conducted separately, with indigenous yeasts and without temperature control. Afterwards, the wine is aged for 10 months, partly in steel tanks and partly in used barrels, allowing each variety to express its nuance with calmness and authenticity.

The result is Sàgona Gattorosso, a red wine that captivates with its honesty. Fresh, structured, with clear fruit and an elegant rusticity. Like that red cat that climbs onto your lap without asking, yet you cannot resist stroking.
