Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky Portwood is a bright amber whisky with a delicate ruby glint. On the nose, it combines dark chocolate, cranberries, plums, and dried fruits over a background of toasted oak. On the palate, it is creamy with a medium body, featuring notes of honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and a luscious red fruit jam. Its passage is warm and enveloping, with a very pleasant balance between sweetness and spices. The finish is smooth and prolonged, leaving hints of honey, oak, and a delicate spicy touch. At first glance, Wales and Port might seem to have little in common. However, Penderyn found a way to demonstrate that, when it comes to whisky, distances can be much shorter than they appear: taking their Welsh single malt and allowing it to finish ageing in Port wine barrels. The result is a whisky that retains the distillery's clean elegance while embracing the warmer, sweeter, and fruitier side of the Douro.
 
The story begins at Penderyn, nestled in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park, where the distillery revived the tradition of producing whisky in Wales. Here, water springs from a nearby source, flowing through rocks over 340 million years old before reaching the production process. This landscape of deep greens, water, and mountains accompanies a distillery with a unique approach, turning its distinctive character into one of its hallmarks.
 
In Portwood, this personality finds an unexpected companion. The whisky begins its maturation in bourbon barrels, where it develops the clean and elegant profile of Penderyn, before moving to Port wine barrels, which add a sweeter, fruitier, and more enveloping dimension. Bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered, and with its natural colour, it stands out as one of the most remarkable whiskies in the distillery's Gold Range. The result has something particularly appealing: the delicate character of Wales and the warmth of Port speaking the same language.
