About Laventura Garnacha

Laventura Garnacha is a red wine aged in wood made by Laventura Wines with the red Garnacha variety in the D.O.Ca Rioja, in La Rioja (Spain).
 
MacRobert is an intrepid South African winemaker who, after working in his native country and in Priorat, ventured to La Rioja to create his most personal project: Laventura Wines. A small winery that has only 1.5 hectares of its own vineyards and aims to produce quality wines which reflect the characteristics of the local grape varieties and their terroirs. 
 
Laventura Garnacha comes from a selection of dry-farmed vineyards planted at over 580 metres above sea level in stony, well-drained soils. They’re old vines of low production cultivated based on respectful agriculture and using organic practices. The grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum moment of ripening, the bunches are placed in small boxes and with a prior selection in the same field.
 
In the winery, the Laventura Garnacha grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts in concrete tanks. The wine is then aged in 500 litre French oak barrels for 12 months and finally the wine is bottled unfiltered and unclarified. 
 
With the intention of interpreting the red Garnacha variety in a freer state, MacRobert makes Laventura Garnacha, an austere, fresh wine which reflects the characteristics of this grape in the terroirs of La Rioja.
