About Can Leandro La Lloma
It was their grandfather who instilled in them a love and respect for the land that, generation after generation, their family has tended with their own hands. Today, with the same fervour, Gabriel y Alberto Sanchis Mestre continue the family legacy to champion the land that has given life to their vineyards. Located near Ontinyent, between Valencia and Murcia, and approximately 50 km from the coast, they produce modern wines that preserve the essence of tradition. How do they achieve this? By using old vineyards of revived varieties and working with a special classification: "vinos de finca", a term that guarantees the grapes come from a unique terrain, with specific soil, climate, and altitude characteristics influencing each wine's profile.
A clear example of their dedication is Can Leandro La Lloma, a red wine with character, crafted from two revived native varieties: bonicaire and monastrell. These vines, planted more than 50 years ago on the La Lloma Rasa estate, situated between 500 and 550 metres in altitude, reflect the freshness, balance, and personality of the terroir. To ensure the highest quality, the harvest is manual and 100% selected, with 18 kg boxes to preserve the integrity of the grapes. In the winery, both varieties ferment at controlled temperatures of 24-26 °C for 20 days in stainless steel tanks, optimising the extraction of aromas and flavours. After pressing, the wine continues its maturation in large barrels, concrete tanks, and amphorae, where it remains in contact with the fine lees to add complexity and body.
The result; a direct, fresh, and balanced wine, perfectly capturing the character of the soil and the dedication of a family that continues to cultivate the land that has given them so much. Can Leandro La Lloma is not just a wine; it is a vibrant expression of the family legacy, a tribute to the land and tradition.
