About Barons de Rothschild Concordia Brut

It is often said that unity is strength, but when it comes to the Rothschild family, unity forges legend. For generations, the various branches of this name have penned golden chapters in the annals of wine history from their respective strongholds. Philippe Sereys de Rothschild from Château Mouton Rothschild embodies artistic passion and audacity; Ariane de Rothschild from Château Clarke brings the contemporary and resolute vision of the Groupe Edmond de Rothschild; while Baron Eric and his daughter Saskia de Rothschild from Château Lafite Rothschild epitomise timeless elegance and aristocratic excellence. In 2005, these three distinct personalities and monumental legacies chose to intersect their paths and combine visions. From this familial alliance, Champagne Barons de Rothschild was born with the aim of creating their own interpretation of a Grand Vin de Champagne.

From the heart of the Champagne region in France, Barons de Rothschild Concordia Brut draws from some of the most prestigious crus or vineyards in the area. The majority of the blend is composed of the chardonnay variety, sourced primarily from the esteemed Grand Crus and Premier Crus of the Côte des Blancs, renowned for imparting incomparable finesse and elegance. The remainder is pinot noir, sourced from the emblematic vineyards of Verzenay, Aÿ, and Ambonnay, which confer structure and strength to the wine. The vineyards are planted on deeply chalky soils of pure chalk, a porous terrain that acts like a sponge retaining water and imparting a pronounced minerality to the fruit. The region's continental climate provides the necessary balance between cool temperatures and sunlight to achieve a slow maturation that preserves the acidity's tension. All vineyard work is conducted with meticulous viticulture, nurturing each vine with the utmost respect for the environment.

The crafting of Barons de Rothschild Concordia Brut is driven by an obsessive quest for procedural perfection. Harvesting is done manually, collecting the grape clusters in small boxes to prevent skin breakage and any premature oxidation. In the winery, the grapes are gently pressed, and the must undergoes the initial alcoholic fermentation. To maintain the house's signature, the blend incorporates a high percentage of reserve wines, carefully preserved wines from previous vintages to provide complexity and consistency year after year. Following bottling and the secondary fermentation, the wine undergoes an extended ageing period of 4 years on the lees, gaining creaminess and nuances. Finally, after disgorgement, the wine rests for an additional 6 months in the cellar before being released for sale.

Barons de Rothschild Concordia Brut is a superb champagne, expansive and profoundly elegant. A bottle that demonstrates when talent, origin, and patience converge, the result verges on excellence.
