About Barco del Corneta Judas

Barco del Corneta Judas is a white wine without a designation of origin produced by the winery Barco del Corneta in La Seca, Valladolid.

In 2008, Beatriz Herranz returned to La Seca, Valladolid, to her family's vineyards to embark on her new venture, aiming to recapture the essence of Verdejo.

She cultivates all her vineyards following the principles of organic agriculture, with respect for the grape variety, the soil, and the climate. These vineyards are located in the Paraje de Cantarranas, La Seca, on sandy soils abundant with pebbles and featuring clay and limestone in deeper layers. The climate is continental, characterized by cold and dry temperatures during the winter.

Barco del Corneta Judas is part of a recovery project alongside Casio and Bruto, which Beatriz is undertaking with local winegrowers using native varieties from the region. Bruto originates from a vineyard over 60 years old, situated in the municipality of Villanueva de Duero, at an altitude of 710 meters, on siliceous sandy soils with pebbles.

The harvest is conducted manually in 15 kg boxes. After a maceration period of 12-18 hours, the whole grapes are pressed and left to ferment in two 500-litre oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. Once fermentation is complete, it rests for several months in these same barrels and in stainless steel tanks on its fine lees.
