About Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva

Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva is a white wine produced by the Viña Tondonia winery in the D.O.Ca Rioja. The winery is situated in Haro (Rioja Alta), one of the most prestigious and privileged areas for the cultivation of vines in Spain. Viña Tondonia is a historic winery, the first in Haro and the third in la Rioja. The quality of their wines is a true testament to their 137 history.
 

This wine is a blend the two typical white riojan varieties different grape varieties: Viura and Malvasía. The grapes come from the majestic Viña Tondonia estate. The well-known Riojan estate spans across 100 hectares and borders the river Ebro as it passes through Haro, and is crowned by the Tondonia castle.
 

The harvest is carried out manually, with the grapes moved to the winery in 100kg poplar wooden boxes, the traditional way. The grapes ferment without the stems of skins in 60hl oak vats using native yeasts from the vineyards.
 

Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva is then aged for 10 years in American oak barrels, racked annually. López de Heredia is one of the few wineries that continues to produce their barrels using their own cooper. The barrels rest in the silence of the cellar, dug into the rock, at a constant temperature of 12ºC throughout the year.
 

Once the wine has been aged, Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva is clarified with fresh eggs before being bottled. The wine then rests for a further 9 years in the depths of the winery before being placed onto the market.
 

Viña Tondonia is a very special Riojan white wine, aged for 20 years it is practically a museum piece. This is truly a little piece of history from this historic winery. Despite its great age, it is a wine that will continue to evolve.


2001

Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva 2001 is an exceptional white wine with a lingering bouquet, intensely fragrant and sweetly aromatic. It offers a velvety, smooth and delicate palate. This is an exquisite and harmoniously balanced white wine.
1994 The palate is a round white wine. Complex, rich, creamy, balanced, powerful. Dry, with good acidity. Stewed fruit, nuts, and toasted notes, vanilla. Long and persistent.

Gold colour, with some amber reflections. Clean, very dense tear.

The nose is shy. At first not too strong, but little by little it opens and shows all its glory. Almonds, vanilla, laurel, citrus, honey, anise, flowers.
1991 Round, soft and fine wine with very persistent sensations.

Old gold almost amber colour.

In the nose, this wine shows very persistent, very perfumed and sweet aromas.
