Verónica Ortega Tormenta 2023 captivates with a distinctive and authentic expression. The wine displays a brilliant yellow hue. On the nose, it reveals delicate notes of green apple and peach, complemented by an elegant minerality that reflects the region of its origin. On the palate, it surprises with a vibrant and slightly saline texture, a result of its ageing in clay vessels and limestone soils. The 2023 vintage, characterized by favourable climatic conditions, has allowed for optimal grape maturation, endowing it with an exceptional and alluring complexity.

About Verónica Ortega Tormenta

The most promising vigneronne from Cádiz is back! Verónica Ortega is once again drawing in all eyes and palates with her new wine, Tormenta, a single-variety Godello aged in oak barrels and amphorae.

Verónica Ortega continues to use her expertise and sensitivity to make wines within the D.O. Bierzo, this time in San Juan de la Mata, in the north of the denomination where Verónica has taken a chance on 0.8 hectares of the Godello variety. Until now, she has only used Garnacha Tintorera, a little Palomino, Merenzao, Valenciana and Mencía; now this new variety grows in vineyards over 25 years old on clay and limestone soils, at an altitude of 650 metres, showcasing the most mineral and sharp profile of this white variety.

Verónica Ortega Tormenta is harvested by hand and taken to the winemaker’s small cellar, where it is destemmed and undergoes an overnight maceration. During this time, Verónica Ortega Tormenta is also racked, becoming completely clean and perfect to begin fermentation. This step happens spontaneously with native yeasts. Thirteen months in barrels and amphorae will give the final and unique touch to this elegant white with character.
