About Stella Giuseppe Il Maestro Barbera d'Asti Superiore

Stella Giuseppe Il Maestro Barbera d'Asti Superiore is a red wine made from the Barbera variety at the Stella Giuseppe winery in the province of Asti, northwest Italy, in the Piedmont region. Since 1920, Stella Gisueppe has been making wines here that are faithful witnesses of the Monferrato region, one of the most important wine districts in the country. The local reigning variety is the Barbera, which is cultivated with other varieties like Grignolio, Nebbiolo and Freisa. However, the Barbera is the most representative and you can’t talk about the region without mentioning it. Although the first historical reference dates back to 1512, there are assumptions that this variety was already being cultivated in the area in the Middle Ages, spreading very quickly and becoming part of the farmers’ daily diet. To make Stella Giuseppe Il Maestro Barbera d'Asti Superiore, the grapes are grown on half a hectare of the Bricco Fubine vineyard, facing south, on sandy-limestone soil.

After the harvest, which is carried out in perforated boxes, the clusters arrive at the winery, where they are gently destemmed and left to macerate for 10-12 days before fermentation. After this, Stella Giuseppe Il Maestro Barbera d'Asti Superiore is transferred to stainless steel tanks, where it will become wine. It will spend 5 months aging here, until it is transferred to Slavonian oak barrels (where it will remain for 18 months). Aging happens entirely in the bottle, with a half-year waiting period before it is released for sale. This final step is very important for Stella Giuseppe Il Maestro Barbera d'Asti Superiore as these are the things the Superior denomination is based on (which has the essential requirement of a 12 month aging, at least six of which must be in wooden barrels).

2021

Stella Giuseppe Il Maestro Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2021 boasts an alluring bouquet of ripe cherries and a hint of blackberries, interwoven with a whisper of vanilla and black pepper. On the palate, its depth is elegantly unfurled, presenting a velvety texture and refined tannins that culminate in a lingering finish. This red wine is a harmonious exemplar of the Barbera expression, showcasing a balanced ripeness of fruit with a gentle spicing.

2019 Stella Giuseppe Il Maestro Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2019 is a concentrated red. The nose is intense and ethereal, with aromas of jam, plum, fig and blackberry. On the palate it has character and structure, with body. Smooth and with good acidity. Fresh and well balanced. Long finish.
