About Mariotti Set e Mez

In homage to the life of the locals of Romagna, in northern Italy, who spend summer afternoons enjoying piadina romagnola sandwiches and sipping bottles of frizzante wine while playing cards on the beach, Mirco Mariotti has crafted a collection of natural sparkling wines full of sensuality, named after various local card games.

Among his creations is Mariotti Set e Mez. This sparkling wine comes from century-old vineyards located in the heart of Bosco Eliceo, just 300 metres from the Adriatic, producing a rare and wild local grape variety known as fortana. The vineyard practices are sustainable, and the grapes are hand-picked at the optimal stage of ripeness. Once in the winery, the grapes undergo destemming and gentle pressing. This is followed by a maceration with the skins for about 24 to 36 hours. Spontaneous fermentation lasts around two weeks, after which the wine is kept in concrete tanks until the second fermentation. The secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle, using selected yeasts, without prior clarification. Finally, the wine is aged in the cellar for 12 months before being released for sale.

The result is astonishing. Mariotti Set e Mez is an energetic sparkling wine with remarkable clarity. So much so that, once poured, strawberries seem to leap from the glass. Without a doubt, with this frizzante, the cards are on the table.
