About Box 1 bottle Krug Grande Cuvée Edition 173th

Joseph Krug harboured a dream: to craft the finest champagne possible each year, irrespective of annual climatic variations. Years after this aspiration, the maison Krug continues to make it a reality with Krug Grande Cuvée Edition 173th. 
 
Each Krug Grande Cuvée is a blend of 120 individual wines, from over 10 different years, achieving an expression of the fullness of flavours and aromas that so distinctly characterise this house. Amidst such diversity, three grapes take centre stage: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. Adhering to the philosophy that so distinctly defines this house, each parcel of Krug is treated in isolation, resulting in a sparkling wine that exhibits a distinctive, even unique, character, always respecting the individuality and specificity of each terroir. 
 
In the winery, this individuality is also preserved. Following the harvest, Krug Grande Cuvée Edition 173th is pressed and fermented separately in used oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation also occurs. The ultimate destination of the contents of these vessels is the assemblage, but until that moment arrives, Krug Grande Cuvée Edition 173th is transferred to stainless steel tanks where it will rest on its lees. The final decision lies with the tasting committee of Krug, who convene each morning at 11:00 a.m. to taste and observe the evolution of the wines. This task will extend for approximately half a year until the time comes to decide on the assemblage. Once the composition is created, Krug Grande Cuvée Edition 173th returns to the cellar, where it will rest for at least seven years.
