Dominio de Atauta La Mala 2019 is a red wine that captivates from the first glance with its deep and vibrant cherry hue. As it approaches the nose, an aromatic array unfolds where floral notes such as lavender mingle with aromatic herbs like rosemary and chamomile. Notes of forest fruits like ripe blackberries and raspberries also stand out, complemented by subtle hints of coffee and spices that add complexity. On the palate, this wine offers an elegant and silky passage with fine tannins and an acidity that imparts freshness, maintaining a pleasant balance. About Dominio de Atauta La Mala

The name of an estate is very personal and they are all completely different. In reality, it usually reflects the identity and values of the estate, as well as the unique characteristics of the land and the wine produced on it. “La Mala” is a plot named after the low production of its vines, something that in the past was considered unprofitable and bad (hence its name), but in reality, today it has been demonstrated that thanks to this low yield, they can grow a complex, intense and mineral grape. Owned by Dominio de Atauta, a winery in the Atauta Valley, a small area in the Ribera del Duero region of Soria (Spain), La Mala is one of the three single-vineyard wines produced by this winery with the aim of showcasing all the virtues of the Atauta Valley. High altitude wines that are made individually with the utmost respect for their essence and nature and that provide an authentic sensory pleasure.

The result of a mixture of vineyards lying on hillsides, Dominio de Atauta La Mala comes from a variety of 25 terroirs growing between 940 and 1,010 metres above sea level. These are old Tinto Fino vines that can reach 160 years of age and grow in low production on sandy-clay-loam soil and calcareous rock. In the winery, the grapes are selected, destemmed and crushed to begin fermentation in concrete tanks and wooden vats. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (20% new, 80% used) before being bottled.

The result is Dominio de Atauta La Mala, the maximum expression of the Atauta Valley’s minerality. A clear example of commitment to the unique viticultural heritage of this small legacy in the Ribera del Duero. This is a true single-plot wine that is completely different to what its name would suggest.

2016

Dominio de Atauta La Mala 2016, one of the greatest vintages in recent years, stands out for its aromas of red fruits, notes of aromatic herbs and hints of chalky minerals. On the palate it is powerful, delicate and elegant. A concentrated wine with a strong mineral character whose integrated acidity refreshes the palate and soft tannins make it seductive and very pleasant. The finish is long, persistent and subtly saline.
