About Caves d'Esclans Les Clans

Few wines demand as much attention in their production as a rosé. It seeks the profile of a red with the demands of a white. Very few winemakers manage to overcome this challenge, where the goal is to achieve maximum aromatic expression while extracting the least amount of colour possible. However, there is always an exception that proves the rule. And that exception is Sasha Lichine with Caves d'Esclans Les Clans. 
 
From the outset, Caves d'Esclans Les Clans will captivate you irresistibly; and it will undoubtedly do so with its flavour. Completely deceptive and misleading, no eye can predict the power and concentration of this wine, which in blind tastings many sommeliers and experts classify as a White Burgundy. All theories inevitably crumble after the first sip, filled with a concentration and potency that no one would have bet on.
 
This character of Caves d'Esclans Les Clans is cultivated in the vineyards of Château d’Esclans in Provence. This terrain, northwest of St. Tropez, lies within the boundaries of the A.O.C. Côtes de Provence, the largest in France. Here, on the Mediterranean coast, Grenache, Syrah, and Vermentino thrive perfectly on the limestone soils that—depending on their proximity to the coast—will mix with varying amounts of schist. In the words of Sasha himself, his estate can be considered "magical"; and part of this magic is transferred to the winery during the production process. 
 
Ultimately, the Mediterranean climate will determine the start of the harvest. Its scarce rainfall and abundant hours of sunshine will dictate the pace at which the clusters ripen. Only when they are at their peak (around early September) will the harvest of Caves d'Esclans Les Clans begin. This process, perhaps one of the most crucial, is carried out manually, with great care, transporting the grapes in 10 kg boxes to avoid excessive weight and prevent the crushing of the clusters at the bottom. This last point is very significant, as both in Caves d'Esclans Les Clans and the rest of the house's wines, the aim is always to maintain the highest possible quality. These standards are set by the winemakers, who establish parameters that the harvest must meet without fail. In the screening or verification of these standards, Caves d'Esclans will use an optical reader to examine each grape as it enters the winery. After crushing and milling, Caves d'Esclans Les Clans is transferred to a closed-circuit press where nitrogen and cold are used to extract the free-run juice in the best possible conditions. From here, Caves d'Esclans Les Clans is racked into oak barrels where it ferments and rests on its lees for approximately a year. During this time, battonage will be essential a couple of times a week. Pure magic without tricks! 
2023
Caves d'Esclans Les Clans 2023 is an exceptionally pale and light rosé. On the nose, it features fresh notes of strawberries and citrus, complemented by a subtle hint of peach. On the palate, it is fresh and delicate, with a balanced acidity that makes it very pleasant to drink. Ideal for those seeking an elegant and easy-to-enjoy rosé.
