About Ardbeg 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

If you love spirits and are passionate about whisky, you can’t miss Ardbeg 10 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky. This isn’t just a tip, it’s a must!

From the island of Islay, Scotland, comes this all-natural, pure malt wonder. Undoubtedly one of the best in the world. Specifically, the malt, considered the most phenolic and smoky in the industry, is grown on this island of 3000 inhabitants and peated to a level of 50 ppm. But what is peat? Peat is a fossil fuel, formed by the decomposition of plant remains in swampy areas, which in many countries (especially in the Nordic countries) is used to fuel fires. This substance, which is harvested in spring and left to dry in summer, is also used in the production of whisky, with some of the peat added to the drying kilns during the malting process (when the seed germinates and is still wet). The main consequence is that the peat smoke will produce chemicals, known as phenols, which will make the whisky more peaty. Depending on the origin of the peat, the nuances will vary. For example, in Islay, where the peat is high in methylguaiacol, drier, more medicinal flavours will be added to the whisky.

Once crushed and converted into grist, the malt is added to a masher where it is mixed with hot water from Lake Uigeadail (about 32°), where the aim is to extract as much sugar as possible. Once this is achieved, and after making sure of it by adding water at three different temperatures, the solid and liquid parts of Ardbeg 10 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky are separated. The first will be taken to feed cattle; the second is left to cool and once it has reached 18°C it is pumped to the Wash Backs (where the yeasts will be added). Due to the high phenol content, Ardbeg 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky has a longer fermentation time.

Finally, Ardbeg 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is distilled (twice) and aged for a full decade in old bourbon casks. It couldn’t be more authentic.
