Chablis is practically synonymous with Chardonnay. Located in the Burgundy region of France, this denomination of origin is known for producing exclusively white wines from the area’s leading grape: the Chardonnay variety. Unlike the great Chardonnay white wines produced in Burgundy, the Chablis white wine is known for showcasing the most authentic and natural side of the Chardonnay grape. These wines rarely display the buttery notes that are so characteristic of barrel-aged Chardonnay wines. Instead, Chablis produces white wines with an aromatic elegance that includes citrus and white flowers and that uniquely reflect the qualities of the region’s soil and climate. Chablis wines are dry, elegant, slightly saline and mineral, with a long, sharp finish, and are an excellent introduction to understanding and enjoying the exquisite minerality of French wines.
