About Luca Beso de Dante
Considered the father of the Italian language, and one of the most influential writers in the history of Italian literature, Dante Alighieri became famous for his epic poem “The Divine Comedy”, a journey through Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, which is known for its rich symbolism, its depiction of medieval theology and philosophy, as well as its exploration of universal human topics. And it is in homage to this figure that Laura Catena, the third generation of the prestigious Argentine winemaking family of Italian origin Catena Zapata, presents Luca Beso de Dante.
Under the Luca Wines brand, and in honour of her first-born son, she set up her own project based on the search for old vines in Mendoza (Argentina) to be vinified in the Old World style. Luca Beso de Dante is a Bordeaux blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is made with vines over 30 years old from vineyards located in the Uco Valley, Gualtallary, La Consulta and Altimira at an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level. They are cultivated in a traditional way limiting yields in favour of quality. The grapes are then selected, destemmed and crushed in the winery to begin maceration and fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Finally, the wine is aged in new and one year old French oak barrels for 18 months.
As the first blend of this style made in Mendoza, Luca Beso de Dante is a red wine from the Uco Valley that immortalises the official Bordeaux classification of 1855. A wine that honours a glorious European past born and made in the New World.
2019 | Luca Beso de Dante 2019 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of red fruit over a menthol background and hints of smoke and chocolate. On the palate it is sweet, dense and balanced. A medium-bodied wine with moderate tannins, integrated acidity and a long, lingering finish. |
