About Quiñón de Valmira

Palacios Remondo Quiñón de Valmira 2023 is a red wine made from Garnacha with a minimal percentage of other local red varieties, produced by the winery Palacios Remondo under the D.O. C. Rioja in Alfaro, La Rioja.

The clusters used to produce Palacios Remondo Quiñón de Valmira come from a single vineyard, a calcareous podium over the Valle del Ebro with cold soils that result in an open and expressive wine. This plot has a surface layer of only 20 cm thick, predominantly composed of carbonate and clay-iron sediments, but it is in the subsoil where a deep and calcareous horizon is found.

The vineyard is located on a gently sloping hillside with vines around 30 years old, cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. Upon arrival at the winery, the clusters are gently destemmed and crushed, initiating alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats with their native yeasts. The resulting wine undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrels and ages for around 18 months, depending on the vintage, in foudres and bocois.

Palacios Remondo Quiñón de Valmira is a delightful surprise from Rioja where Garnacha stands at the pinnacle of elegance and distinction over the popular Tempranillo. A Rioja red that once again reaffirms the talent of the renowned winemaker Álvaro Palacios in identifying sites and varieties that form exquisite and surprising unions, a gift that has elevated him to one of the great wine producers worldwide.

2017 Quiñón de Valmira 2017 is a red wine with citrus notes of orange and tangerine peel on the nose, as well as hints of wild red fruits like currants and strawberries. On the palate it is delicate and subtle. An elegant Garnacha with great storage potential that will be at its best after five years in the bottle.
