Tasting notes M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois 2025 en Primeur

Red wine Aged in wood Biodynamic. 14 meses en barricas de roble.

M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois 2025 is a red wine of remarkable depth and silky character, presenting in the glass with an intense ruby hue that already hints at its serene concentration. On the nose, it opens with an almost ethereal floral delicacy, where rose petals and peony gradually give way to notes of candied orange peel and a spicy undertone that imparts warmth and complexity. On the palate, it flows with a velvety, ample, and harmonious touch, where the tannins integrate as an enveloping texture that supports the journey without dominating. The finish is long and elegant, with echoes of juicy red fruit, bitter citrus, and flowers that seem to linger in the air, like an afternoon that stretches on, reluctant to end.

About M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois

There are places where stone, sun, and wind seem to conspire to speak slowly... and Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of them.

In that corner of the Rhône Valley (France), Maison M. Chapoutier has spent over two centuries listening rather than imposing. Since 1808, this family house has been charting a map of vineyards that extends across some of the most iconic appellations in southern France. However, it was much later, in 1991, when Michel Chapoutier decided to revolutionise the approach to viticulture, embracing biodynamics and a concept both simple and radical: allowing each plot to express its own truth. Today, that same philosophy remains vibrant, upheld by the family and a way of understanding wine that travels across continents without losing its original accent.

From the lieu-dit “Croix de Bois,” M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois is a red wine born from a landscape of red clay and large quartzite pebbles, where old vines—between 45 and 80 years—cling to the earth with patience. It is 100% Grenache, hand-harvested, crafted with utmost respect and without embellishment: it ferments in concrete, macerates slowly for weeks, and then rests for over a year in that same mineral silence, untouched by wood. In the glass, everything is expressed with a silky, enveloping texture, ripe fruit that doesn't weigh heavy, gentle spices, and a sense of balance that seems to emerge from the earth itself rather than the hand of man.

M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois is one of those wines that need not speak loudly. It glides, occupies its space with calm, and leaves a warm, almost solar imprint. Best enjoyed when the light dims a little, when conversation lingers unhurriedly, and the glass becomes an excuse to remain a while longer where you are.
