About Joseph Drouhin Pommard

Joseph Drouhin Pommard is a biodynamic red wine cask made by Joseph Drouhin with the Pinot Noir variety in the French appellation AOC Pommard Côte-d'Or in Burgundy.

Founded in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin in Beaune, this winery is known for having some of the best vineyards in Burgundy. A total of 90 denominations concentrated in superior quality red and white wines. The domain is currently managed by the fourth generation Drouhin under biodynamic precepts and achieving the maximum expression of each terroir.

Joseph Drouhin Pommard comes from prestigious vineyards south of Beaune. Old vines planted in clay and limestone soils which are cultivated with organic treatments and limiting production to 44 hl/ ha. When the Pinot Noir variety reaches its optimum moment of ripening, it’s harvested by hand.

Once the Joseph Drouhin Pommard grapes have been crushed, they macerate and ferment with native yeasts for 2 to 3 weeks under temperature control. Daily treading and pump-overs are carried out until the end of fermentation and then it’s pressed. Finally, the wine ages in used French oak barrels for 14 - 18 months.

Ambassador winery for Burgundy and the Pinot Noir variety, Joseph Drouhin Pommard is an obvious example of the freshness and finesse which so characterizes these wines.

2018 Joseph Drouhin Pommard 2018 is a pleasant red wine with intense aromas of black fruit, spicy notes and hints of leather. On the palate it’s harmonious, light and very elegant. It has firm tannins and a very pleasant balance between acidity and alcohol. The aftertaste is lingering and persistent.
