About Domaine Roblet-Monnot Nerthus Chardonnay

Wine is a beverage that has accompanied man throughout history. In Greek mythology, it was already called the nectar of the gods and was associated with wisdom and divine inspiration. Influenced by this mythological concept, Pascal Roblet and Cécile Tremblay, in charge of the management of Domaine Roblet-Monnot, produced a wine under the name of Nerthus, a goddess from Germanic mythology who is associated with fertility and prosperity of the land and who, thanks to her light, protects crops and livestock. A concept that ties in perfectly with the biodynamic working philosophy of this couple located in the Volnay wine region of Burgundy, who, thanks to practices that are considered somewhat eccentric by their traditional neighbours, achieve exuberant, deep wines with considerable aging potential.

The fruit of old vines over 50 years old planted on limestone and calcareous soils, Domaine Roblet-Monnot Nerthus belongs to the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune AOC. This wine is made with 100% organic chardonnay grapes that may or may not be destemmed in the cellar, depending on the vintage and cuvée. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts at a controlled temperature and then the wine ages for 18–24 months in barrels, with minimal presence of new oak. Finally, the wine is bottled without being clarified, filtered or adding sulphites.

From vineyards located at the heights of the Hautes-Côtes, Domaine Roblet-Monnot Nerthus presents the depth and minerality so typical of this area of Burgundy, but with the pulsating vibrancy caused by the altitude. Undoubtedly, a nectar of the gods.

 

2018

Domaine Roblet-Monnot Nerthus 2018 is a creamy white wine suffused with scents of white fruits, citrus undertones, and balsamic hints. On the palate, it is profound, refined, and well-constructed. A medium-bodied wine featuring seamlessly integrated acidity, exquisitely refined tannins, and a lingering finish redolent of mineral nuances.
