About Château Marjosse
Despite the opinion of his father—who believed that the old and unremarkable vineyard held no interest—Pierre Lurton was always certain that sooner or later, Château Marjosse would be his. And so it happened in 1991 when he purchased a part of this estate, which he subsequently acquired bit by bit. As each new vineyard parcel came into his possession, Pierre enhanced both its quality and production; all this effort allowed him to finally own the complete 50 hectares that today form part of the estate. This journey was not easy. Right from the start, Pierre had to confront one of the worst frosts that Bordeaux has ever experienced. But in the end, his story has a happy ending, paired with an excellent wine such as Château Marjosse.
Located 14 km south of Saint-Émilion, in the A.O.C. Côtes de Bordeaux, this enchanting place is distinguished by its clay and limestone soils. This characteristic, more typical of Saint-Émilion than the A.O.C. Côtes de Bordeaux, is what makes the merlot, cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and malbec that Pierre Lurton cultivates here so special. Although the majority of the vineyards have been replanted, what truly adds value to this estate is the old vineyard section (planted in 1946), which Pierre has managed to maintain and restore. What an incredible task! All this would be in vain if there wasn't a good winery to process the grapes properly. For this reason, in the year 2000, Pierre modernized the facilities with much more advanced equipment and a design that blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. Likewise, this new winery is particularly noted for its use of thermoregulated cement tanks where Château Marjosse ferments and macerates for several months. This period, during which the must will be in contact with the skins, will allow the red wine to develop the body needed to face the subsequent aging in barrels. This step will be carried out in oak barrels, half used and half new, achieving the perfect balance that makes Château Marjosse such a unique red wine.
It is well known that most offspring tend not to follow their parents' advice. And blessed was the moment when Pierre Lurton ignored his father's counsel and followed his own path! With effort, determination, and passion, Château Marjosse eventually became a reality. There is nothing that a passion for wine and a good glass of Château Marjosse cannot achieve.
