About Château Corbin
Carefully tended vines, careful selection of grape clusters and slow barrel aging are the pillars on which the Château Corbin wines stand. This is one of the oldest wineries in Saint-Émilion where they make wines like Château Corbin.
Merlot and Cabernet Franc are the base of this red wine, made in the A.O.C. Saint-Émilion. It starts life at the gates of Pomerol, in the heart of one of the largest manors, founded in the 15th century, which is now in the hands of Anabelle Cruse (winemaker and fourth generation of this family who has taken on leadership of this company).
Elegance and complexity are the hallmarks of this house that owns 13 hectares of vineyards just northwest of Saint-Émilion. The area’s soils, which play a fundamental role, are mainly clayey and rich in iron, giving the wine delicacy and finesse. The vines, with an average age of 30 years old, produce few but high quality clusters. This is due in part to the renovation carried out by Anabelle Cruse, who increased planting density in order to produce fewer clusters per vine and increase quality.
This is just one of hundreds of details that are monitored in the vineyard, where work and care are continuous. The main objective: to get the grapes to reach their optimum ripeness. Once this has happened, it is time for the grape harvest. This task, which is of course one of the most important, is carried out manually and collected in boxes. This ensures that the fruit remains intact, arriving in good condition at the winery, where it will begin to be processed. In this way, plot by plot, the clusters will be sorted, keeping only the best to make Château Corbin. This selection phase, which is carried out in three stages, is key: the first stage happens just before destemming, and the other two stages happen just after, before crushing.
Once they have made sure that only the best clusters have been selected, Château Corbin is transferred to temperature-controlled 50-hectolitre concrete vats. At this stage, the plots are vinified separately to enhance each of their individual characteristics. When the time comes for aging, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels, where it will remain for 17 to 19 months (depending on the vintage).
Finally, Château Corbin is filtered and bottled, resulting in an elegant, handcrafted and pure wine: the highest expression of the A.O.C. Saint-Émilion.
