About Mascorrubí Sumoll Atuell

In Catalan, atuell refers to any vessel—be it made of clay, metal, or glass—capable of holding liquids, grains, or ointments. More than a mere container, it is a symbol of protection and patience. It is the place where raw materials rest, transform, and find meaning.

This same spirit of sheltering inspires the Mascorrubí project, a farmhouse in Pla de Manlleu—the elevated heart of Penedès—thriving at altitudes between 500 and 700 metres. There, poor and stony soils compel the vine to strive and concentrate aromas. There, the thermal variation between day and night bestows natural freshness upon the grape. The winery was born from the desire to reconnect with rural childhood, to breathe more slowly, and to demonstrate that tradition can converse with modern oenology without losing authenticity. Thus, everything is cultivated organically and harvested by hand, vine by vine, cluster by cluster.

Here, the sumoll grape, native and austere, is revitalised with freshness and elegance. Mascorrubí Sumoll Atuell is testament to this. A grape that ferments and macerates in stainless steel, and is aged for 6 to 9 months in ceramic vessels (atuells), which provide gentle micro-oxygenation without altering its purity. The result is a vibrant wine, with fresh acidity, fine tannins, and mineral aromas that speak of its origin.

Like the "atuell" that preserves and allows its contents to evolve, Mascorrubí Sumoll Atuell encapsulates a story of returning to the land, listening to it, and allowing it to express itself without ostentation. A wine that feels alive, elegant, and true to its Mediterranean essence.
