About La Riva Blanco de Macharnudo

La Riva Blanco de Macharnudo is a white wine aged under a yeast cap and made with the Palomino variety by the De la Riva winery in the VT Cádiz.

Jerez Willy Pérez and Ramiro Ibañez are the brains behind reviving Manuel Antonio De La Riva, a brand with a reputation in the winemaking history of Marco de Jerez and that used to be owned by Domecq and the multinational company Beam Global. Since they became the owners in 2017, De La Riva has become a project that seeks to revive real jewels of the winemaking world.

La Riva Blanco de Macharnudo comes from vines planted in “El Notario”. A plot located in the Cadiz town of Macharnudo Alto, lying at an altitude of 11 metres, and 18 kilometres from the sea. These are vines planted on fantastic Albariza soil that allows the grapes to reach an exceptional quality. They practice traditional agriculture, limiting the yield by half, and the harvest is carried out manually.

Once the La Riva Blanco de Macharnudo grape has been harvested, they use the ‘asoleo’ technique, which involves leaving the grape under the sun for 6 to 8 hours. The grapes are then pressed and allowed to ferment in a 600 litre tanks at room temperature with a yeast cap. Finally, it ages for 20 months under the yeast cap.

La Riva Blanco de Macharnudo is a wine made in the traditional Marco de Jerez way. A white wine with an oxidative character, which it gets from aging under a yeast cap.

2017 La Riva Blanco de Macharnudo 2017 is a mature white wine with complex aromas of aromatic herbs, resinous woods and mineral touches. On the palate it is flavoursome and intense with a persistent subtle acidity. It has flavours of nuts and a pleasantly saline finish.
