De Trafford Chenin Blanc 2022 captivates from the outset with aromas of ripe quince, apple tart, and apricots, nuanced with a hint of honey, flint, and fresh mint. About De Trafford Chenin Blanc

De Trafford Chenin Blanc is a single-variety Chenin Blanc white wine produced by the De Trafford winery in Coastal Region, South Africa.

The grapes used to make De Trafford Chenin Blanc come from three different plots, the first with vines over thirty years old with predominantly sandy and gravel soils. The second plot has vines aged around twelve years old planted in deep red hutton soils with good moisture retention, and the third plot has strains aged over 30 years old and located 8 km from the refreshing influence of the sea. The three plots are lightly irrigated as the grapes ripen.

To make the De Trafford Chenin Blanc wine, the grapes are squeezed lightly and remain in contact with the skins for two hours before pressing, which happens gently in a traditional basket press. The must ferments and ages with its native yeasts for ten months in French oak barrels of different sizes, 10% of which are new. It is bottled without filtering.

De Trafford is a small family winery that works to produce high-end, long-living and intense wines made with minimal intervention. Rita, David Trafford’s wife, is an artist who designs silk scarves, some of which are used to decorate the wine labels, as is the case here.

De Trafford Chenin Blanc 2021 is a white wine that offers captivating aromas of lanolin and wax melon, complemented by hints of green peach and fresh lemon. On the palate, it is a medium to full-bodied wine, with a fresh and fleshy texture, and a slight bitterness that culminates in a vibrant finish of citrus and minerality. A chenin blanc full of nuances and character.
2018 De Trafford Chenin Blanc 2018 is a white wine with fruity aromas of peaches, apricots and quinces on the nose, accompanied by floral notes of honey and lemon and a fresh and menthol hue. On the palate this wine is substantial and creamy, with the apricot flavours returning. A tasty and easy to drink wine.
