About Cueva Orange

Cueva Orange is a orange wine produced by Bodegas Cueva in La Portera (Valencia), D.O. Utiel-Requena.

 

Bodegas Cueva is the personal project of Mariano Taberner, where he combines his knowledge in oenology and his creative ability to make natural wines, respecting the environment, biodiversity and health. This is why he only uses organic cultivation.

Bodega Cueva is an 18th-century winery that is adjusted to our times. However, they follow the traditional and craftsmanship methods when they make their wines. They use native varieties like Bobal, Tardana and Tempranillo, and they are vinified naturally, without filtering or added treatments.

 

Cueva Orange is a orange wine made from Tardana from their own vineyards planted on clayey-calcareous soils.

The harvest is performed later in the year, to pick the ripest grapes. When the grapes arrive at the winery, they macerate with the skins for 5-6 days. Fermentation is performed with native yeasts and with 50% of the skins. When the fermentation ends, it is left to stand for 3 months in stainless steel deposits with its fine lees.

 

Cueva Orange is an intense and fresh orange wine. Its long maceration with the skins gives it volume and a great fruity expression. In the mouth, it is powerful, very fresh and with an elegant bitter finish that makes it long and persistent.

Cueva Orange is a fantastic host of orange wines (white wines fermented and/or aged with the skins).

2022

Cueva Orange 2022 epitomizes a natural orange wine, exhibiting both a refreshing profile and approachability. Upon olfaction, it unfurls a spectrum of aromatics, with apricot and citrus nuances taking center stage, complemented by hints of honey and wildflowers. On the palate, its youthful exuberance is manifested in a lively character, punctuated by a harmoniously balanced acidity that accentuates the fruit-driven flavors and culminates in a refreshingly subtle bitter finish.
2020

Cueva Orange 2020 is an aromatic orange wine featuring citrus notes against a herbaceous backdrop. On the palate, it is crisp, dry, and well-structured. This is an eminently quaffable wine with a granular mouthfeel and a lingering finish.
