Château Le Gay 2016 is a concentrated red wine with a nose of ripe red and black fruits, notes of lilac flowers and subtle hints of wood, chocolate, smoke and minerals. The palate is savoury, velvety and well-structured. A medium to full-bodied wine with silky tannins and crisp acidity. The finish is very long and seductively perfumed.

About Château Le Gay

Catherine Péré Vergé was a very brave woman, so much so that “Madame de Pomerol” was published in her honour. A comic that tells the story of how a girl from a multimillionaire family dedicated to the world of crystal glassware, ends up getting involved in making her own wine. Although a stubborn and difficult character, the truth is that this lady mostly stood out for her visionary nature. A perfectionist who achieved her goals in just a few vintages when she acquired Château Le Gay in 1985. This was a small 6 hectare winery in the AOC Pomerol where she managed to squeeze out the region’s character through quality rather than quantity. Convinced that perfection comes from the sum of very precise details, she went from making the glass to making the wine very successfully.

Based on the philosophy that Pomerol is a gem that forces us to go beyond our limits, Château Le Gay presents its homonymous wine with great pride. A red wine made mainly with Merlot, accompanied by some Cabernet Franc. The vines are about 40 years old and are planted in gravelly clay soils. Respectful agriculture is practiced and the grapes are harvested by hand to keep the berries in the best condition until they reach the winery. Fermentation is then spontaneous with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and finally the wine ages for a 18 months in French oak barrels.

That way, Château Le Gay maintains the aura of the “Madame de Pomerol”. A perfectionist to the max who, despite her overwhelming personality, achieved the utmost excellence in everything she set out to do. And this is clear to see in Château Le Gay. A real Pomerol gem!
