About Château Berliquet

"To live happily, one must live hidden," says the popular expression, and discretion is one of the maxims of the Wertheimer brothers. A clan of influential Jewish merchants who partnered with Coco Chanel in 1924 to expand the Chanel N° 5 fragrance worldwide, their public appearances have always been extremely rare and far from being the center of attention. Maximum discretion, which has always been shielded from potential power struggles, has not only preserved the family for three generations but has also managed to extend its influence into other sectors such as watchmaking, lingerie, and even wine. In the latter sector, they have recently acquired the Châteaux Canon and Rauzan-Ségla, and in 2017, they acquired Château Berliquet, a small gem located in one of the former growth areas of Saint-Emilion, which was one of the most famous in the 19th century. Thanks to this acquisition, they have been able to make greater investments and focus on the quality and development of their wines.

Located in the so-called "limestone plateau" of Saint-Émilion, within the wine production area of the AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, the estate covers around 10 hectares of vineyards planted mainly with the typical Bordeaux grape varieties. Its eponymous wine, Château Berliquet, is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc sourced from vines that grow in soils composed primarily of clay, limestone, and silt, rich in minerals and nutrients. In the winery, the best grapes are selected and fermented with indigenous yeasts at controlled temperatures. The wine then ages in French oak barrels and amphorae for a period of 16 months.

The result of the efforts of a family that has known how to appreciate and revive the virtues of an estate that had its splendor in the 19th century, Château Berliquet is a wine whose success lies in the charm of discretion. It is a deep, full-bodied, and elegant wine that clearly highlights the success of Old World wines.
