About Can Descregut Vinil

In the midst of the groundbreaking digital era, an increasing number of audiophiles are coming to appreciate the warmth and analog character of vinyl sound. Engaging with a vinyl record involves a tactile experience that is unparalleled. From carefully sliding it out of its sleeve, placing it on the turntable, to gently lowering the stylus, there's a ritual that many find more rewarding than the mere act of clicking on a digital file. Moreover, vinyl replicates sound in a way that is closer to how it was originally captured during the recording session, providing a more organic and authentic listening sensation. Similarly, in the world of winemaking, natural wine strives to reflect the grape's and terroir's authenticity. To achieve this, winemakers minimize intervention in the vinification process to allow the wine's true personality to shine through. This means showcasing the characteristics of the soil, climate, and environment where the grapes flourish. It is with this philosophy that Arantxa and Marc, the visionaries behind the Penedès (Catalonia) winery Can Descregut, have introduced Vinil (vinyl in Catalan), a red wine that is the result of an intimate connection with the creative and natural process.

The creation of Can Descregut Vinil involves two red grape varieties, merlot and sumoll. The latter is an indigenous variety of the Penedès region that, despite its historical prevalence, suffered such a decline in the past that it was at risk of disappearing. Fortunately, dedicated vintners like Arantxa and Marc have fervently championed this reclaimed variety. Despite its low yield and the complexity of its vinification, the high acidity levels of the sumoll grape endow it with a lively and refreshing personality. Grown in chalky soils, Can Descregut manages these vines under organic certification with biodynamic practices and handpicks the grapes at the optimal point of ripeness. Subsequently, in the cellar, spontaneous fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention, and then the wine is aged for 12 months in used oak barrels before bottling.

The result of a blend of merlot and sumoll (the Mediterranean's answer to pinot noir), Can Descregut Vinil is a wine that, much like the grooves of a record, invites one to delve into its layers. It is ideal for those in search of handcrafted and 100% authentic experiences.
