Alegre Valgañón Tinto 2023 is a wine of vibrant ruby hue, fresh and expressive, where ripe red fruits meet delicate floral notes, aromatic herbs, and a suggestive hint of orange peel. On the palate, it is gentle and well-balanced, with good concentration, an enveloping texture, and a slight earthy nuance reminiscent of the vineyard landscape. About Alegre Valgañón Tinto

What if the Rioja you thought you knew still held hidden corners waiting to be discovered? In the most mountainous and less obvious part of the appellation, the Montes Obarenes protect small vineyards nestled among slopes, villages, and landscapes shaped by the Tirón River. From there emerges Alegre Valgañón Tinto, a wine that reveals a more intimate, fresh, and terroir-driven Rioja.
 
Óscar Alegre and Eva Valgañón are well-acquainted with these lands as they are an integral part of their own history. Their family vineyards are scattered across places like Fonzaleche, Cihuri, Cellorigo, and Villaseca, in plots where viticulture is practised with respect and care. Their approach aligns with the spirit of Rioja ’n’ Roll, the movement they helped to promote alongside other small-scale winemakers dedicated to reviving a freer and more personal way of crafting wine.
 
In Alegre Valgañón Tinto, tempranillo, garnacha, and a touch of viura come together to create a fresh and expressive red, crafted from hand-harvested grapes, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged slowly in various wooden formats. In the glass, red fruits, flowers, and a delicate hint of orange peel emerge, while aromatic herbs and a subtle earthy nuance reveal glimpses of the landscape. On the palate, it gains depth, with ripe fruit, good concentration, and a balance that keeps the wine vibrant and light.
 
Alegre Valgañón Tinto is one of those wines that transforms a bottle into a small escape: to the northern villages of Rioja, the slopes of the Obarenes, and those vineyards that still hold some secrets.
