About Adega Reg. de Colares Arenae Ramisco

Adega Reg. de Colares Arenae Ramisco is a barrel-aged red wine made with the native Ramisco variety by Adega Reg. de Colares in the DOC Colares (Lisbon).

Adega Reg. de Colares is a small cooperative located on the Sintra coast (Lisbon) with 18 hectares of vineyards that are part of the small Portuguese denomination DOC Colares. This winery’s main assets are the Atlantic sea breeze and showcasing Portugal’s oldest variety, the Ramisco.

Adega Reg. de Colares Arenae Ramisco comes from vines lying less than 1 km from the Atlantic coast, at an average altitude of 110 m and on sandy soils. These strains need protecting from the sea wind using dry reeds stitched with wicker. They are cultivated using traditional agriculture and the harvest is carried out at the optimum point of ripeness.

In the winery, the Adega Reg. de Colares Arenae Ramisco grapes are crushed to begin fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26-28ºC and with careful pump overs. Finally, it ages for 3 years in exotic wood vats, followed by 1 more year in oak barrels.

Made with one of the oldest varieties in Portugal, Adega Reg. de Colares Arenae Ramisco is a wine as unusual as it is traditional. A tannic wine with an Atlantic profile.

2010 Adega Reg. De Colares Arenae Ramisco 2010 is a smooth red wine with complex aromas of red and black fruit, spicy notes and hints of iodine. On the palate it has a strongly Atlantic character, with high acidity and marked tannins. A wine for aging that improves over time.
