About Abadal 3.9

Abadal 3.9 is a red wine made in the D.O. Pla de Bages by Abadal with the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah varieties.

Abadal is a winery located in the town of Santa Maria de Horta de Avinyó (Bages) founded by Valentí Roqueta in 1983 with the aim of revealing the land’s uniqueness through their wines. These are vineyards near the family house (Roqueta farmhouse) dating back more than 9 centuries, where forests and vineyards coexist beautifully in a microclimate of contrasts. As a result, they create great red and white wines with unique personalities.

Unusually, the Abadal 3.9 vineyards grow in a forest terrain with calcareous soils on red clay. These are 30-year-old strains that enjoy low rainfall and significant temperature differences between day and night. Combining traditional winemaking methods with state-of-the-art techniques, they grow high quality grapes with great personality. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are selected and harvested manually.

In the winery each variety used to make the Abadal 3.9 is vinified separately, in stainless steel tanks, at a controlled temperature and keeping the traditional “submerged cap” inside the fermenting liquid. It then ages in different 1- and 2-year-old French and American oak barrels for 12 months. Finally, it rests for another 12 months in the bottle before going to market.

Abadal 3.9 is an estate wine that comes from a unique vineyard; from zone 3, plot 9. A very special area where the calcareous soil gives the most interesting fresh, mineral and balsamic sensations.
2016 Abadal 3.9 2016 is a fruity red wine with aromas of red and black fruits, balsamic tones and a spicy background from the barrel. On the palate it is broad and powerful, with a long finish with hints of cocoa and cassis.

Intense cherry red with brick-red trim

On the nose there are notes of fresh red fruit ( cherry and current) and ripe plum with balsamic tones of liquorice and mint. Background of vanilla and spice from the barrel
2008 On the palate its entry is smooth, broad and voluminous, tastes both meaty and silky at the same time. Good structure and balanced acidity. Ripe and well-integrated tannins. Long and persistent finish. An elegant wine, very good value for money in its field.

Intense picota cherry colour with a garnet rim, full robe. Clean and bright with abundant tinted tears shown on the glass.

Intense and very clean, medium intensity at first. A strong charge of ripe black fruits shares the spotlight with toasted notes, and floral and spicy aromas. Develops a nice complexity as it is oxygenated and then balsamic and mineral notes appear.
2007 Broad and intense attack and a silky and flavourful mid palate. Its notes of fruit and wood are very well balanced. Its good minerality is present at all the stages. Tannins are greedy. It has a good, long and persistent finish with fruity and spicy aftertaste and final mineral notes.
A very nice red wine with a highly mineral expression, to pair a meal or to be drunk alone. Very seductive.

High robe intense cherry colour with garnet edges. Clean and abundant legs that stain the glass.

Very powerful, complex and clean nose. Its huge load of fruit includes notes of black fruit and berries, and it is released along with complex floral aromas, roasted notes and spices (liquorice, coffee). When it opens up, its complexity and intensity increase and toasted, balsamic, spicy (vanilla, chocolate) and mineral notes are felt more intensely. Final touch of green pepper.
2005 Mouth is large and powerful, with a soft tannic but this roundness. With long-end of cocoa and cassis.

Intense cherry red with rust trim.

Opening balsamic aroma with tones of licorice and mint give way to ripe plum, and notes in his cooler full of soft fruit. Funds vanilla and spices from the cask.
