About The Juice Asylum Lost Under Heaven

Having a clear-cut approach leaves no room for error, but it also stifles the opportunity to explore, experiment, and discover. This philosophy guides Alessio Guidi, an enthusiast of peculiarity, in his winemaking project. In his winery, known as The Juice Asylum in Tuscany (Italy), Guidi is dedicated to extracting the utmost expression of the terroir, allowing the grapes to express themselves as they are, without constraints or corrections. In Guidi's own words, The Juice Asylum is like a sanctuary where the juice can experiment freely, enabling the wine to authentically speak of its place of origin. Here, the aim is not to produce a "perfect" wine by conventional standards but to capture the true essence and uniqueness of the vineyard. This requires a profound respect for nature and individuality, both in the vineyard and in the winery. Thus, at The Juice Asylum, experimentation and exploration are not only permitted but are deemed essential to discovering something truly unique.

One of his wines, The Juice Asylum Lost Under Heaven, originates from a few clusters that surprisingly survived a severe hailstorm that destroyed almost the entire crop. Hence the name, which means "lost under the sky." This wine has since been made from Grenache Blanc grapes from 5-year-old vines planted in clay and limestone soil. It is produced under biodynamic certification, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, the whole clusters undergo partial carbonic maceration for about 10 days before the must is extracted from the skins. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts, and subsequently, the wine ages for 6 months in clay amphorae before being bottled without clarification, filtration, and with a very small dose of sulfur.

In The Juice Asylum Lost Under Heaven, the wine is not made; it is allowed to express itself naturally, letting each bottle tell the unique story of its origin. A window into the land from which it comes, a celebration of the diversity and authenticity of the wine.

The Juice Asylum Lost Under Heaven 2022 is a light amber orange wine. On the nose, it reveals mature aromas of bread, apricot, and honey. Upon tasting, it features citrus flavours, white peach, and a hint of rhubarb. Its texture is smooth due to the skin contact with the grapes, making it an excellent choice for those looking to explore the world of orange wine.
