About M. Chapoutier St. Joseph Deschants Rouge

M. Chapoutier St. Joseph Deschants Rouge is a monovarietal wine from Syrah grapes produced by Maison Chapoutier from the Apellation Saint-Joseph, in the Rhone.

Maison Chapoutier is an old winery in the Rhone Valley founded in 1808. It is a precursor of biodynamic practice and all its vineyards are cultivated in an eco-friendly or biodynamic way. It produces wines in the best denominations of the Rhone Valley as well as in other countries.

The soils for M. Chapoutier St. Joseph Deschants Rouge are granitic and slightly acidic. They are located on the right bank of the Rhone in the foothills of the Massif Central. The grapes are harvested manually to fully respect the integrity of the grape and to make an initial selection of bunches while still in the field.

M. Chapoutier St. Joseph Deschants Rouge is vinified in open cement vats, with pumping over once or twice a day to extract colour and aromas from the skins. The must-wine remains in contact with the skins for about 3-4 weeks. Lastly, the ageing is performed in French oak barrels and casks for a period of 12 to 18 months.

2015 M. Chapoutier St. Joseph Deschants Rouge 2015 is a wine with powerful aromas of cranberry and cherry compote, accompanied by touches of smoke and spices. In the mouth it is soft and sweet, and expansive on the palate. It offers cherry flavours and liquorice paste. Smoky touches return, leaving us with notes of fruit liqueur and soft tannins.
