About M. Chapoutier Ermitage L'Ermite Rouge

M. Chapoutier Ermitage L'Ermite Rouge is a monovarietalSyrah red wine produced by Michel Chapoutier in the Apellation Hermitage, in Rhone Valley.

Michel Chapoutier is one of the most outstanding winemakers in France. Precursor of biodynamic cultivation in the Rhône, he seeks to ensure that the varieties and the terroir are synchronised with the natural cycles so that the wine is expressed in its maximum splendour. Michel Chapoutier also has properties in some of the most prestigious appellations of origin in the country, such as Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Crozes-Hermitage, among others.

The vineyard for M. Chapoutier Ermitage L'Ermite Rouge is cultivated biodynamically and is located on the top of the Hermitage hill, around the chapel, in a place called L'Ermite. The vines are 80 years old and the soils are granitic and poor in organic matter, which allows the grapes produced to be of a high quality. The harvest is carried out manually and a little late, to achieve an optimum ripeness of the grape.

The bunches for producing Michel Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Rouge are destemmed and vatted in cement tanks. The fermentation takes place for about 4 weeks, enough time to extract the soft and stable tannins in order to keep the wine alive for a long time. The temperature does not exceed 32 ºC. Pressed wine is not used to make the wine. Lastly it matures in new and one year old barrels for 18-20 months.

M. Chapoutier Ermitage L'Ermite Rouge is a unique wine that has achieved 100 Parker points on more than one occasion. A wine with a very elegant aroma, dominated by touches of violets and cassis, and memories of minerals. It is a wine with acidity and perfect tannins which, depending on the vintage, can be enjoyed perfectly if it is kept in optimum conditions for the next 75 years.

M. Chapoutier Ermitage L'Ermite Rouge is almost a perfume. It shows us how a Syrah is expressed on a granitic terroir. On the nose we find black fruit, violets and cassis, with notes of spices and black ink. Its tannins are powerful but velvety. We also find notes of smoke and pepper.

2015 M. Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Rouge 2015 ist ein Wein mit hervorragenden Aromen von Cassis, intensiv und konzentriert. Es ist ein komplexer, ausgewogener und langer Wein. Er hat Noten von Bruchstein, Gewürzen, Pfeffer und gegrilltem Fleisch, begleitet von einer Welle Frucht und reifen Tanninen, die ihm eine lange Lebensdauer verleihen.
2014 M. Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Rouge 2014 offers fabulous notes of aniseed, blackberries, candied plums, burnt earth, roasted elements, crushed violets, cassis cream and black spices. It has tannins that will allow the wine to age for many years, a very wide and rounded mouthfeel and a very lingering finish.
2012 M. Chapoutier Hermitage L'Ermite Rouge 2012 has notes of minerals and powdered rock, black and red fruit, and violets. On the palate there are also notes of white fruit and black berries. It is powerful and enveloping, while at the same time velvety and lingering. Its acidity and tannins will keep it alive for many years.
