About El Nido

El Nido is a great red wine made by Bodegas el Nido from D.O. Jumilla.
Bodegas el Nido belongs to the Gil Family Estates group, a group that also owns Juan Gil, Atalaya, Ateca and Shaya wineries among others.

El Nido is a coupage of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Monastrell (30%) varieties. The grapes are grown in a small, 12 hectare Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard and 32 hectares of Monastrell vineyards. Very old vineyards that have a very low yield but have a great grape quality.
The vineyards are planted around the winery, in Valle de la Aragona, with many surface stones. At 30-40 cm deep there is a layer of limestone, and below that is a very sandy soil where the roots can reach the nutrients.

The harvest is done by hand, and the grapes are transported to the winery in small crates that eliminate any premature breakage of the grapes.
Once at the winery the grapes are subject to a selection process.

El Nido undergoes a maceration and afterwards a fermentation in small stainless steel deposits and barrels. The malolactic fermentation occurs in new French and American oak barrels, where there is an aging for 24 months.

El Nido 2021 epitomises Jumilla in a glass. Its bouquet captivates with violets, ripe fruits, and a subtle hint of spice, enveloped in elegant toasted and creamy notes. On the palate, it unfurls its potency with depth and persistence, balancing its formidable structure with refined tannins. A red wine of great character and sophistication, it promises to reveal its full potential over time, transforming each sip into an unforgettable experience.
2018

El Nido 2018 is one of the great wines from D.O. Jumilla. Full of flavour, complex and powerful. Marvellous. It can be kept in a good condition for 5 years.
2012 On the palate it is full of flavour. Powerful and complex. A fruity presence. A great structure and a very pleasant taste on the palate. Very, very persistent.

Cherry red colour with small bluish hues.

Complex and marvellous on the nose with blueberry, chocolate, high roast and tobacco notes. Presence of minerals from the estate where it grows.

2010 Very rich and strong wine. Powerful. Silky, sweet and intense palate with lots of fruit. Great volume. Polished and ripe tannins very well integrated. Very long and pleasant finish, with good persistence. A very elegant and structured wine.

Very dark cherry colour, almost black. High robe. Clean and bright. Dense tear.

Very aromatic wine. Powerful aromas of ripe black fruit along with an intense and complex range of aromas of spices, balsamic, good toasted and chocolate with a touch of leather and undergrowth and very creamy milky notes.

2007 Powerful, meaty and very expressive. Intense, velvety and very tasty mid palate, with lots of fruit. Polished tannins, and well integrated wood scents. Long, lingering aftertaste, with hints of fruit.

Good aromatic intensity. Very powerful and complex aromas of ripe fruit accompanied by touches of spicy, balsamic and underbrush notes, chocolate, cream, toffee,... A real sight for the senses.
2006 It is intense, concentrated and complex, a little sophisticated and resources to reflect on their extraordinary richness and flavor extract.

Cherry covered.

Notes of leather, toast and ripe fruits, mixed with a hint of spice.
