About Dominio de Atauta San Juan

"Good things come in small packages", a proverb we've often heard from our mothers and grandmothers, fits perfectly with the Colección Single Vineyards from Bodegas Dominio de Atauta. Nestled in the quaint Valle de Atauta, along the Sorian edge of the Ribera del Duero, this small valley, only 4 km long and 1 km wide, offers a collection of wines of staggering quality and distinct personality. The secret lies in the immense diversity of soils, elevations, and depths that make up the valley, which, combined with the expertise of oenologist Jaime Suárez, results in terroir-driven wines of exceptionally limited production and outstanding character. Thus, anyone fortunate enough to encounter one of their wines can consider themselves truly lucky.

In the case of Dominio de Atauta San Juan, it is the result of reviving 1,415 vines aged 140 years, spread across 7 plots. These ancient vines of tinto fino are planted at an altitude of 950 meters on soils composed of sand, clay, and limestone. Only organic, environmentally friendly products are used, and work is carried out in the most sustainable way possible. The harvest is done manually in 11 kg boxes, and in the winery, it goes through a double selection process of both clusters and berries, ensuring only the finest grapes are used. The vinification is conducted by individual plots with a cold maceration of 7 days and a controlled temperature fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in second-use French oak barrels, where the wine remains for 6 months before being bottled according to the lunar calendar.

With a production that does not exceed 600 bottles, Dominio de Atauta San Juan is the essence of an exceptional small area. A vinicultural gem that only a few will have the chance to savor. Indeed, a diminutive yet monumental treasure.
