About Château Larcis Ducasse Avanzada

Sometimes going off track can be scary. But this is the only way to discover things that otherwise would not have been discovered. The clay and gravel soils of the A.O.C. Saint-Émilion Grand Cru are well known; however, this was not enough for Château Larcis Ducasse and they decided to go off the beaten track to do more research.

Beyond the mosaics and soils of the A.O.C. Saint-Émilion, with clays, lime (from the Tertiary era), gravels and sands (from the Quaternary era), the estate’s group of owners and winemakers have been able to discover the mosaic of nuances, soils and materials that make up the terroir of this 1777 estate. These wines were already well known in the 18th century, with Château Larcis Ducasse being considered one of the best crus in the denomination. Each of its slopes, orientation and plot are managed to perfection by the team that cultivates these vineyards. The work is manual and completely organic, where the vine sets the rhythms of the vineyard. As part of this step, the team must limit itself to listening to and recognising the needs of the plant, where the only thing they dare to control are the yields and ripening of the bunches (using the basic tool of the senses).

Taste and smell must also be at their best in the winery, where the tasting phase is key. Here the winemakers limit themselves to accompanying the wine, without intervening at any time in the various stages of winemaking. The only justification for intervening beyond the very basic is if Château Larcis Ducasse develops differently to how they expect. Château Larcis Ducasse’s facilities are equipped with the latest technology, being one of the first, since 1898, to use movement by gravity. After fermentation, Château Larcis Ducasse is aged for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels (half new and half used). After this time, the assemblage is carried out, a magical operation where the character of each vintage is decided.

Finally, Château Larcis Ducasse is released for sale. In its youth, it will overflow with gluttony and power. As time goes by, it will become more complex, more restful and wiser. Just like life itself!

2022

Château Larcis Ducasse 2022 is a juicy and delicious red wine. Black fruits, chocolate, floral notes, liquorice and bay leaf appear on the nose. On the palate it is concentrated, broad and enveloping. It is full bodied. Powerful, but very refined. Very interesting to hold onto and try later. Freshness and precision. It’ll be great in a few years!
