About Casa Aurora La Nave Tinto

Mrs Aurora García could never have imagined that, decades later, her name would grace the labels of the wines her grandson would craft in the family village, Villa de Albares, in the heart of the Valle del Boeza, in Bierzo. Casa Aurora is not merely a winery: it is a tribute that Germán R. Blanco pays to his grandmother and his roots, bottling stories that speak of landscapes, ancient vineyards, and a way of understanding the land with respect and tenderness.

Here, amidst the slopes of Bierzo Alto, Germán revives century-old vineyards and the traditional techniques of yesteryear, returning to the origins where patience and intuition are the true tools of the trade. Without fertilisers, without herbicides, without artifices: just living soil, expert hands, and a profound respect for the vine and those who cultivate it.

From this philosophy emerges La Nave Tinto, a soulful wine crafted from old vineyards of garnacha tintorera, mencía, palomino, and other red varieties, cultivated organically. The vines, averaging 74 years old, thrive on red clay soils at altitudes between 810 and 970 metres. The harvest, as tradition dictates, is manual and meticulous, with bunch-by-bunch selection.

In the winery, the grapes are destemmed without crushing and ferment in open PVC vats, with gentle punch-downs and indigenous yeasts. No artifices, just the natural rhythm of the wine. The malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously, and the ageing is spread over 18 months between used French barrels and foudres, seeking texture, balance, and purity. The wine is bottled unfiltered and unstabilised, with minimal sulphur: authentic, honest, unadorned.

In essence, La Nave Tinto is an emotional return, a journey back to childhood. In its aromas and soul beats the memory of Aurora García, the pulse of Bierzo, and the sensitivity of Germán R. Blanco, who has skilfully transformed nostalgia into wine.
