About Marañones Blanco

Marañones Blanco is a white wine from the Vinos de Madrid region produced by the Marañones region. This wine is made using Albillo (100%) grapes.

The grapes used to make this wine come from 4 seperate plots that all offer different characteristics. Situated between 650 and 850 metres, all of the plots grow on granite soils. The vines themselves are between 30 and 70 years old and are organically cultivated. The yield of the vineyards can be low, which means that the quantity of final grapes can be small. However, this means that grapes that do grow boast a higher concentration and better expression of the character or the terroir.

After the harvest has been carried out and the grapes have been transported to the winery, the grapes undergo cool pre-ferment maceration for between 12 to 20 hours. Following this, the grapes pass through a pneumatic press and cleaned naturally, which lasts for a day. Finally, Picarana ferments with its lees in used French oak barrels which are light and medium toasted. It is in these barrels, with capacities ranging from 500 – 700 litres, that the wine ages for 10 months.

Marañones Blanco is the name of a type of bird that lives in the hills of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, where the winery and vineyards are located. The company’s wines have been recognized by many leading wine guides. Lead by García Alonso and Fernando Cornejo, Marañones is an essential winery in the region.
