About Bott Saint-Joseph Rouge
There are mentors who leave a lasting impression, and Stéphane Ogier is one such figure. As the seventh generation of winemakers in the village of Ampuis, Ogier assumed control of the family winery in 1997 with a clear vision: to bring Burgundy's elegance to the Rhône. His obsession with finesse led him to vinify each plot separately, understanding that every piece of land has its own voice, texture, and story.
This same philosophy of respecting the terroir inspired Graeme and Julie Bott. He, a New Zealander; she, a Frenchwoman from the Rhône Valley. They met while working for Ogier in Côte-Rôtie, where a connection was forged as strong as their passion for wine. Without inherited vineyards or family wealth, they decided to start from scratch and establish their own domaine in the northern Rhône. What began with effort and a great deal of faith is now a winery that exudes authenticity, precision, and character.
Bott Saint-Joseph Rouge perfectly embodies this vision. Born from vines on granitic soils and a meticulous selection of plots, this wine exhibits surprising complexity and purity. The syrah grapes, hand-harvested and meticulously chosen, are 100% destemmed before undergoing cold maceration in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation begins naturally with wild yeasts, and the wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, refining its structure and depth.
Bott Saint-Joseph Rouge is a red wine with soul: elegant, expressive, and brimming with mineral energy, reflecting both Ogier's legacy and the Bott's determination to craft wines that speak, unfiltered, of their place of origin.
