About Barraco Terre Siciliane Grillo

Marsala, a fortified wine similar to the original Port and made in the region surrounding the city of the same name in Sicily, is very successful, especially among the British public, but not everyone is convinced by it. For Nino Barraco, a new generation winemaker, his desire is to produce dry wines with personality and local identity. To do this, he has been taking care of the family vineyards that stretch along the Sicilian coast since 2004 and, using completely artisan methods, from harvest to aging, his wines have plenty to say for themselves. These wines go against the grain, for the simple reason of wanting to keep them closely connected to the surrounding environment.

Barraco Terre Siciliane Grillo is a single-variety wine made with the native Grillo variety grown in a vineyard of red earth covered with a thin layer of golden sand and lying 10 metres above sea level. A great advocate of organic agriculture, the grapes are harvested by hand when they are perfectly ripe. Then, in the winery, the grapes macerate for 5 days and undergo a traditional pressing that showcases the artisan nature of the process. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts and in contact with its lees. Finally, the wine is aged for 9 months before bottling in order to develop complexity and aging potential.  

With Barraco Terre Siciliane Grillo, Nino brings out the most precious characteristics of the Grillo grape with minimal intervention and surrounded by a 100% Mediterranean landscape. An ode to openness that, if you have the opportunity, you really must try.


 

2020

Barraco Terre Siciliane Grillo 2020 is a defined white wine with complex aromas of fruity notes, accompanied by spices, citrus and almonds and a mineral background that is very characteristic of the Mediterranean. On the palate it is complex, fresh and balanced. A wine with bright acidity, a broad mid-palate and a long and saline finish.
