Tasting notes Viña Salceda Entresierras 2023

White wine Aged on its lees Respectful agriculture. 12 meses sobre lías.

Viña Salceda Entresierras 2023 invites you, with its bright new gold colour, to explore a world of intense aromas. On the nose, it offers easily recognisable stone fruits such as peach, complemented by vegetal nuances of nettle and tomato leaf. The experience continues with sweet notes of custard and honeycomb, while subtle toasty hints add depth. The mineral touch of gypsum and chalk, derived from the limestone soils, adds a subtle sophistication. On the palate, it is full-bodied and broad, with acidity that balances the ensemble, imparting a special elegance and complexity. The finish, slightly bitter, leaves a lingering impression. Recommended for its balance between sweetness, acidity, and minerality, this wine is a wonderful choice for those seeking something with personality and the potential to evolve positively over time.

About Viña Salceda Entresierras

Between Sierra Cantabria and the Sierra de la Demanda lie the two landscapes that shape Viña Salceda Entresierras. To the north, the Sonsierra. To the south, the Alto Najerilla. Two regions with distinct soils, altitudes, and conditions come together here to create a complex, fresh white wine deeply connected to its origin.

In the Sonsierra, the spotlight is on the old Viura vines, rooted in calcareous, poor soils and situated in well-exposed plots. In the Alto Najerilla, Viura is co-planted with Garnacha and small amounts of Calagraño, while a high, cool parcel of Tempranillo Blanco thrives on iron-rich red soils. This mosaic of grape varieties and landscapes contributes different nuances to the final blend.

The winemaking of Viña Salceda Entresierras respects this diversity from the outset. There is not a single harvest, but three distinct moments, determined by the area and grape variety. First, the Tempranillo Blanco is picked; then, the Viuras of the Sonsierra; and finally, the Viuras from the Alto Najerilla. Each wine is crafted separately to preserve the identity of its plot and its optimal ripening moment.

Viña Salceda Entresierras undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts and, once completed, begins a 12-month ageing on its fine lees. This involves a combination of barrels, foudres, and concrete eggs, three vessels that provide different textures and levels of evolution. Only afterwards does the final blend take place, where all these elements find their balance.

Viña Salceda Entresierras is a white wine crafted from two landscapes and various interpretations of the vineyard. A bottle in which Rioja is viewed from two perspectives, revealing that between them, there is still much to discover.
