About Ultreia La Vitoriana

The inaugural powered flight, the erection of the Eiffel Tower, the birth of George Orwell, the establishment of the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, the genesis of the Tour de France… Indeed, 1903 was no ordinary year! However, if this era ought to be remembered for one thing in particular, it is for the plot La Vitoriana and its grapes, which to this day continue to yield exquisite wines. Yes, indeed. Just as you are reading. These vines, situated in Valtuille (within the D.O. Bierzo), remain steadfast and unyielding. And Raúl Pérez masterfully cultivates them to produce the monovarietal Ultreia La Vitoriana.

With this Mencía variety, grown on clayey soils interspersed with stones and quartz, the renowned winemaker has succeeded in ascending to the upper echelons of the esteemed Parker list—Who would have thought, especially considering that as a child, he aspired to be a doctor! However, ultimately, blood and fate exerted a stronger pull, and he devoted himself with complete love and loyalty to the family business, which he has absorbed since his earliest days at home. Love, dedication, and meticulous care are the only secrets and the three essential criteria for transforming wine from a mere refreshment to a beverage with soul.

The D.O. Bierzo is palpable in every sip of Ultreia La Vitoriana. Harvesting is done by hand, as are all other vineyard care practices, and the bunches are placed directly into open barrels of 3,000 liters, where Ultreia La Vitoriana ferments naturally and spontaneously from indigenous yeasts. They know precisely what to do. Raúl is simply a guide, who, with as little intervention as possible, ensures that the entire process proceeds smoothly. After a maceration period of 60 days—during which the grape must is in contact with the skins—and an aging process of one year in used barrels, the limited production of Ultreia La Vitoriana is more than ready to be savored. Ultreia La Vitoriana 2021 is a collector's red, exhibiting a deep ruby hue, exuding elegance. The bouquet is pronounced, featuring ripe red fruits, violets, and undertones of forest floor.
