Tasting notes The Glenlivet 12 Y.O. Single Cask Edition Butt 50 cl

Whisky (50 cl.).

The Glenlivet 12 Y.O. Single Cask Edition Butt is a Scottish single malt whisky that presents itself with a dark and profound hue, almost seductive in the glass, as if already hinting at its intensity before it approaches the nose. Aromas of freshly baked fruitcake, cocoa, and a spiced note of clove evoke the warmth of a winter pantry. On the palate, it unfolds with character: dark chocolate, ginger, and sultanas intertwine with nuts and vibrant spices, forming a rich and enveloping ensemble. The finish is long, dry, and persistent, like a conversation that extends into the night when no one is in a hurry to leave.

About The Glenlivet 12 Y.O. Single Cask Edition Butt 50 cl

Not all whiskies are meant to be opened at any given moment; some seem to await the right conversation, lighting, and mood. Could this be one of those?

In the secluded Livet valley, where the cold spring waters and the silence of the hills set the pace for George Smith's early illicit distillations, a unique understanding of whisky was born that has always looked ahead. That reserved and resilient spirit would eventually intersect with history when, in August 1822, King George IV visited Scotland and requested a taste of the then already renowned whisky Glenlivet. It was still an illegal whisky, but not even that deterred the king. From this blend of risk, craftsmanship, and Scottish stubbornness emerged an identity that transformed the forbidden into a benchmark and the local into a proper name.

The Glenlivet 12 Y.O. Single Cask Edition Butt ages in a single butt-type cask (of Jerez origin and larger than bourbon casks), as if time had chosen not to mingle with anything else. The influence of the Jerez wood is perceived as a warm shadow: ripe fruit, gentle spices, something sweetly profound that unfolds leisurely, while the strength of its alcohol content gives it an almost tactile, serious presence, devoid of artifice. It does not seek to be immediately pleasant; it prefers to reveal itself to those who linger a bit longer.

The Glenlivet 12 Y.O. Single Cask Edition Butt is a whisky intended for collectors and connoisseurs, fitting those moments where everything is slower than usual, perhaps at the end of the night, when the noise subsides and only the essentials remain on the table. A liquid object to gaze at, smell, and understand unhurriedly, as if each sip were a note taken from an ancient notebook that is not entirely read but gradually intuited.
