About Tanuki Bob

Tanuki Bob is a red wine produced by the 4 Kilos winery in Felanitx, V.T. Mallorca.



In 2006 Francesc Grimalt and Sergi Caballero founded the 4 Kilos winery. 4 Kilos is the colloquial way of saying 4 million pesetas, which was the initial investment made by Francesc and Sergi to launch the winery.

4 Kilos produces its wines in Felanitx, in the heart of the island of Mallorca. Here the climate is mild Mediterranean, with dry and warm summers and very little rainfall. They practice a rational agriculture that is highly environmentally-friendly, and with a minimum of intervention. They use the native vegetation cover, with a large microbiological population aimed at ensuring a good biodiversity in the vineyard.

With these conditions and Francesc’s extensive knowledge of the native varieties, they produce wines that have character and are highly authentic.
 

Tanuki Bob is a red wine made with Manto Negro and Syrah from vineyards located in clay-loam soils containing ferric oxide, known as "Call Vermell".

After the manual harvest with grapes selected in the vineyard itself, it is fermented in 4,000-litre fudres with native yeasts. After the fermentation, it is aged for 9 months in the fudres themselves and 9 months longer in stainless steel vats. Before coming to market, it is left to age in the bottle for 6 months.

Tanuki Bob 2020 greets us with a playful and earthy demeanor. On the nose, it unfurls fresh aromas of red cherries and strawberries, interwoven with a hint of wild herbs. Upon tasting, its vibrant acidity and slight rusticity pirouette on the palate, reminiscent of the finesse found in a Volnay Pinot Noir. Despite its youth, it boasts a structure that impresses without overwhelming, gliding vertically and seamlessly towards a finish that, while not extensive, leaves a distinct and mineral impression.

Tanuki Bob 2018 is a supple red wine suffused with scents of ripe red fruit, herbaceous undertones, and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is succulent, flavorful, and all-encompassing. This wine boasts a vibrant acidity, pronounced tannins, and an exceptionally pleasant, protracted finish.
2015 Tanuki Bob 2015 is a light, juicy wine with character. This vintage shows all the character of the Manto Negro variety with balance and freshness. Aromas of fresh red fruit on the nose with mineral notes. In the mouth, it is sharp and very fresh.
