About Sclavos Zakynthino Orange

Delectable, robust, and unparalleled. Sclavos Zakynthino Orange is a wine that will undoubtedly capture your attention. We are certain of its impact, hence the forewarning.

Sclavos Zakynthino Orange is an orange wine crafted by Evriviadis Sklavos, a leading figure in Greek viniculture, a pioneer in both the cultivation of indigenous grape varieties and the biodynamic approach he adopts in his wine production. To be precise, in 1990, when hardly any Greek vintners were contemplating this eco-friendly agriculture, Evriviadis Sklavos began the conversion of his vineyards. He similarly revitalized native grape varieties, restoring their significance and producing wines that have once again elevated Greece's status on the global wine map.

In the case of Sclavos Zakynthino Orange, the essence is derived directly from the zakynthino grape, a native variety of the island of Zakynthos that has managed to leap from one island to another, becoming one of the most widely cultivated grapes in the Greek Islands. For Sclavos Zakynthino Orange, the clusters grow in the south of Cephalonia, specifically in Elios, within the P.G.I. Slopes of Aenos region. Here, amongst varying slopes and inclines, the vines thrive on loamy-clay soils, with a southwest-facing orientation (which significantly aids the ripening of the grapes). The maritime influence is also undeniable, with sea breezes tempering the temperatures and preventing extreme thermal fluctuations. As a result, the berries can develop gradually, without abrupt changes or factors that could disrupt their growth, achieving a perfect balance between their acidity and sugars. However, the true enchantment of Sclavos Zakynthino Orange lies in its vinification process, where the must undergoes an extended maceration with its skins and pomace. Specifically, to be more precise, this contact occurs throughout the majority of the process, as even the fermentation—spontaneous and utilizing indigenous yeasts—takes place with the skins. All of this transpires in concrete eggs, each with a capacity of 1,700 liters, where the wine also undergoes aging and malolactic fermentation for approximately one year.

Sclavos Zakynthino Orange, which is bottled unfiltered and unfined, is not suited to every palate, as it is a wine with a distinct personality, intended for those connoisseurs already versed in the world of skin contact and tannic wines.

2021

Sclavos Zakynthino Orange 2021 is a wine with a clear and well-defined profile. Light-bodied and with moderate aromatic intensity, it features notes of citrus fruits such as orange and grapefruit on the nose, complemented by a subtle hint of peach. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, with a pleasant acidity that enhances its fruity flavours. Perfect for those seeking a distinctive and easy-to-enjoy wine.
